The camp

objection to the site is that it is flat but since it is

of Bandy soil and immediately adjacent to the ocean drain- age is easily offeokeä. The site is protected from the ocean by a permaneat sea wall of modern construction.

There are 226 prisoners in camp.

proper occupies a space 680 feet long by 188 feet in

breadth. It is surrounded by a double set of barbed wire fence und entanglasenta between which lie sentry beats. Adjoining the above is a space set aside for accom.sodations for the camp commandant, guard houses and other adminis-

tration matsheds. On the west the full width of the camp for about 70 feet is given over for recreation grounds. An additional site of perhaps 300 yards deep adjoining the present camp is being prepared for additional recreation

space and an opening in the main enclosure is being made

so as to permit of free access to the new enclosure. The buildings opcupied by the prisoners occupy the central bortion of the

Camp Buildings.

The buildingt are what are known in the east

temporary buildings consisting of

palm leaves made into a sole or less thick thatch and

fastened to bamboo or|lusbel frames so as to form the roof

and sides of the structurae These structures are quite

suitable for camps in bumser and are only open to the objection that they are not completely wind proof in

winter but since the winters ʼn Hongkong are merely cool

dry
